There is no place like Paréa.
Let’s save it together!

Thousands of people on the move are still trapped on Lesvos. Since the fires of Moria Camp, the Greek island has almost disappeared from public perception - but people continue to embark on the dangerous journeys to Europe in search of safety. Two years ago, we as Europe Cares stepped in to save a unique community center when other NGOs withdrew from the Island. At the time, arrivals on Lesvos were dropping. Today, we are in crisis: thousands of people are arriving again, making our community center Paréa Lesvos more crucial than ever. There used to be 100 visitors a day, now we receive 700 - and the numbers keep going up.

While the camp population and their needs continue to rise, international attention and funding continue to withdraw. With our community center, we give back a little hope and bring people and organizations together. We want to keep one community in solidarity alive! Without your support, we will have to close at the end of December 2023. This is why we are asking for your help: Let’s save Paréa together!

Paréa Lesvos is located within walking distance from the Mavrovouni refugee camp on Lesvos. We are a home to nine other civil society organizations and offer a safe space for the over 5,000 residents of the camp. In the past one year and a half, we supported over 20,000 visitors from the refugee community.  Here, in one place the camp community can access a wide range of services,  including food and NFI distributions, legal and psychosocial support, education and social care activities. But first and foremost, at Paréa we offer a sense of normalcy and belonging to the refugee community.

No matter how small the donation, it will go directly towards extending the life of Paréa beyond December:

• Keeping the doors open
  We must pay for rent, electricity, water, as well as the safety and technical maintenance.

• Continuing our operations
  We purchase the supplies to maintain the café, lunch distribution, the social club, the safe space for women, IT classes as well as our small rental car to transport them to Paréa.

• Maintaining our professional team on the ground
  We rely on our amazing team of four coordinators and two officers who run our daily activities and coordinate the team of volunteers. We also offer regular and emergency support to our community volunteers.
