Situation on Samos | Samos is an island in the eastern Aegean Sea not far from the Turkish mainland. On it lies the refugee camp Vathy, which is one of the five ‘hotspot’ camps that were established on Greek islands that lie close to the external borders of the European Union. Migrants arriving on the islands via Turkey are restrained to leave them before a decision about their asylum application has been made. As the processes are often protracted, and people have to wait for months or even years, the camps are severely overcrowded.

Situation Report: Calais | January 2021

Situation in Calais | This month, we have completed our first aid shipment to Calais and want to share details about the situation on the ground. Calais is a port city located in northern France and only 34 km away from Great Britain. It is the major port for ship traffic between France and England. Because of this, over 1,000 refugees who wish to reach Britain sojourn in the vicinity of Calais. While the encampment called the 'Calais Jungle' was officially demolished in October 2016, refugees are still present.
